I followed the link to the other thread and lost the plot. How is Nevada Northern involved? The subject of this thread is "Alco goes to Snoqualmie."

One of NN units is at Snoqualmie (which has no active rail connection). Report is truck taking the Alco to Snoqualmie will pick up NN unit and take it to Ely.

Exactly. I live in the NW not far from Snoqualmie, but my only sources are the various related forums I follow. As I understand it, the museum at Snoqualmie has an Alco that spent time at Nevada Northern and NN would like back (Kennecott Copper RSD4 #201; this unit really has no historic NW background, see separate RYPN Interchange thread). The Snoqualmie museum also owns an Alco donated some twenty years ago (former NP HH660 #125, the unit described in this post thread) which does have significant NW provenance but which has never been brought to their site. Since the museum is isolated from any rail connection (uses an old Milwaukee ROW section) and some distance from any it all comes down to a truck move (there are older equipment issues to a rail move as well). Both parties are apparently taking advantage of it to get the units that fit their collections home.

Even sweeter is that both units are either operational or apparently not far from it.

One of the delights of the last few decades has been watching the various preservation groups get really motivated and clever at working together.....

I wonder how many truck moves have been this long and involved two units? Interesting for all parties at a time when getting a truck and driver is not easy!

Correction, the Northwest Railway Museum runs on former NP trackage, not MILW. It's the easternmost section of the NP's former line between North Bend and Seattle via Snoqualmie, Snoqualmie Falls, Preston, Issaquah, the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish, Redmond, Woodinville, and around the north side of Lake Washington, i.e., the old Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railway.

The old MILW 10th Subdivision (of the Coast Division) was on the east side of the Snoqualmie River (the NP was on the west side), past the old Weyerhaeuser mill, running between the MILW mainline (2nd Sub) at Cedar Falls and the BN ex-GN mainline at Monroe. A connection existed between the NP and MILW across the River at the mill, and this plus the MILW north to Monroe formed the museum's rail connection after the ex-NP between Issaquah and the Falls was severed, and before flooding in the early 90's damaged the connecting bridge across the River.

The 770 arrived at Snoqualmie yesterday and the 201 left for Ely this morning.
