So I just tried to access the "Save The Beach Train" link, only to have it come up as "not found". I went to their Twitter page to see that this was just posted:

Adverse abandonment proceedings are not short and not quick and not a sure thing, and SCBG would be expected to vigorously fight any attempts, both in the courts and in front of the STB. If the RTC decides to go that route the case would likely drag on for s long time before any decisions are rendered. And for that matter if/when the RTC moved forward with railbanking their railroad they would have to file for abandonment themselves, which would give Roaring Camp an opening to use the OFA process to continue operations over and maybe force the sale of the line to them. In all abandonment cases the OFA process has to end before any trail discussions can begin.

This saga will be unfolding for many years to come.

Jeff, thanks for the great explanation here, do you know if there are any maps of the lines showing where the parties currently are and what is being proposed as a future state?

The last part of what you wrote is most interesting though, if RTC moves to abandon what is the likelihood that it results in the trail proponents worst case scenario where Roaring Camp gets to take the line and no Rail with Trail is ever considered?

On a side note I stumbled on this website here. https://www.railandtrail.org/ Who are these guys and how do they fit into the bigger picture?

“Friends of the Rail and Trail” is a community based organization working with Roaring Camp to promote joint use of the Watsonville to Santa Cruz line.
