I not believe any museum in USA has no interest for this locomotive and also the B Unit C-Liners. I know the money is the key but someone has a idea??

It would be great to see the B units be cosmetically restored and join the two preserved cab units in Canada, but unless there's interest with those two organizations and donations to enable it, I fear it's going to be tough to see these two saved.

A lone B unit simply isn't going to hold a lot of appeal without a matching A unit to go with it, and there's no other C-Liners out there. So I suspect their only real chance is if they can find a home in Nelson and/or Ottawa.

There appears to at least be room in Nelson for one B unit, if the desire and money were to happen. But last I saw they hadn't rectified the graffiti on the two FM's on display next to the depot, so that doesn't bode well to adding a 3rd FM no matter how great of a match one would make for their A unit.

This engine and the two other C-Liner cab-less units now appear to “swim with the fishes” just saw a Facebook video of them being chopped up.

It's true. Too late now. The final end to a long sad story of missed opportunities.

8554 was moved on its own wheels in a regular freight train as recently as 2011. There also used to be a bunch of other historic equipment stored at the same site, and it was all moved to the nearby Aspen Crossing tourist railway a few years ago. Too bad the three FM units couldn't have been 'piggybacked' onto the same special move. CP more recently removed Aspen Crossing's switch off the Aldersyde Sub, complicating any effort to move these by rail.

It had been clear for years now that the abandoned Mazeppa gas plant site was not going to be a long term storage location for any rail equipment. The plant has been demolished and the area reduced back to bare farmland. The rail spur was the only thing left, and it seems the site's new owner wanted to finish clearing everything out.

Well that's a damn shame. I inspected the carcass of #8554 when I was working out of Ogden many years ago and she was in tough shape back then, though still very much salvageable. When it was moved to Mazeppa later on, I had hoped that some railfan benefactor like Gary Southgate or Jason Shron would rescue it and move it to the safety of Jason Thornhill's Aspen Crossing. Alas, it was not meant to be.

The only time I saw the B units was streaking by Mazeppa as part of the crew on #2816. I was sure they would eventually wind up in Ottawa and Nelson B.C. respectively behind the 2 preserved C Liners.... but again, unfortunately it too was not meant to be.

A terrible loss for Canadian railway preservation, a very ignoble end to some historic machinery and a wasted opportunity.

Photo taken by my good friend Jesse Millington (the photographer who took the pictures shared by SD70dude above).... a sad day for railway preservation in Canada.

At least Jason Shron and the crew of Rapido Trains took plenty of videos and photos
and ultimately preserved it digitally extensive with 3D scans...
