I see in today's brief that the MC Rwy is advertising steam heated passenger cars. What kind of steam generator do they have?

Boyd: I'm a little confused here, maybe you can help me out. According to the MC story accompanying the photo, the car was built as an RPO #90. It later was re-numbered to #19, then #200 and finally converted by the Great Northern as a steam generator car and numbered 6. The photo shows the car numbered as 9; a number she never carried. But perhaps the "0" was not yet applied but even so, if she is still a steam generator car, shouldn't she be number 6 and not number 90?

Good question. Somehow I never caught the numbering difference, as many times as I've seen the car. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer right now. Maybe one of the other Mid-Continent members who post here know the answer?

Actually, the two steam generators that were originally in the car were beyond repair. They were removed and a portable boiler was installed in there place. The portable boiler was originally used by the city of Plattville. It had a small gas engine driven fuel oil burner that has since been converted to an electrically driven burner.
