Wondering out loud what it might take to get an excursion setup on RJs new railroad. I know they aren't super passenger friendly but I don't think they are 100% against it. And with nearby Southern Appalachian Railway Museum equipment sitting idle...

It would probably take money more than any other single asset.

Ask someone how the last excursion venture on RJ Corman tracks in Tennessee turned out (the New River Railway).

Yes. Sad case, its all worn out and vandalized now.

There is a proposal to implement a tourist operation out of Myrtle Beach, SC, on a portion of RJC's line to Conway. There was another effort being promoted at Tabor City, NC, also an RJC freight operation (the RFP having recently appeared in the RyPN Classifieds). By these examples, one concludes that RJC isn't universally opposed to the notion.

The best way to find out, however, would be to inquire directly with the Company.

RJ Corman seems to be at the very least tolerant of these operations. Don’t rule it out.

I have not yet seen a 'behind-the-scenes' discussion of how KRM got the Berkshire moved over known steam-hostile CSX. Seems to me that recording the plans and priorities used would constitute a reasonable guide to how to ask railroads for permission.

I see Ross Rowland posting -- he's good with the 'idea' side of getting to yes with a complex set of 'stakeholders'.

Be professional in your maintenance, handling, and 'rider' competence.

Be sure you have insurance that will cover any 'surprises', including any business interruption.

Run so you don't interfere with anything the railroad might do, or want to do, while you are there. That applies to staging or storing the equipment, not just operating it.
