As the 4 posts immediately above graphically show, the small minority who refuse ( or are unable) to understand the facts at issue here find some of the wackiest rationals to support their foolishness.

The rub is that they're not just heavily risking their lives but are prolonging the circulation of the Covid variants by giving the virrus fertile victims to use as stepping stones.

I must admit that I was initially opposed to the idea of charging the unvaccinated an up front cash payment prior to be admitted into a hospital for care when Covid infected and unvaccinated but now think it's probably a justified move. Perhaps that would get the vast majority of the increasingly small ( but stubborn) minority to get off the FNC talking points and get protected rather than risk a $ 50,000 cash up front payment or no admission??

Food for thought. Ross Rowland

Okay, and for everyone who have ever had a sip of alcohol, smoked a cigarette or eaten a Twinkie must as well pay upfront for any health related issues.

You sir, are ridiculous. Keep believing what your media tells you. It’s all propaganda. Even as the facts have changed, the “science” has changed, you are still tail between your legs scared. I now see why you spend so much time on online forums, your rump is glued to the chair in your home because you’re afraid of the outside world.

It appears Mr Rowland thinks the government should be responsible for making all of our decisions. Blacks cant self govern, people who think for themselves are just bound to perish.

Ross last year I lost my mother to COVID. She lived in a facility that required 100 percent vaccine rates from both residents and staff and was among the first in the nation to get the shots. They also required N95 masks to be worn when visitors came in regardless of vaccine status and if residents left for any reason including doctor visits and full isolation for 2 weeks if they left to see a family member or friend. My mother had not seen her family or a friend in over a year outside of fully masked visits inside her apartment. She still caught and died from COVID in a facility that had 100 percent vaccinated staff and residents and followed and went BEYOND the CDC and NIH guidelines on everything. Yet your still saying masks work. Meanwhile I am one of those that only got the shot refused flat out to wear a freaking mask unless I had to even then wore the thinnest thing I could to get by with normally wore a t-shirt sleeve I had cut off to make into a neck band. Only caught it once from my WIFE who works at a facility like where my mother lived in. So this is coming from someone that had it and lost someone that had it MASKS EVEN THE FREAKING N95 DO NOT WORK. The only thing that works is what the nurses at the hospital where wearing that where taking care of my mother. Full pressure masks with UV sterilization of the air coming into the mask. Yes you are reading that right. The hospital around here had them wearing full hood masks that where positive pressure and carried UV sterilization on the air intakes. That and keeping the rooms and a negative pressure .2 PSI below what the rest of the hospital was and running the air thru UV sterilization after coming out of there. A mask to stop a virus is like using a chain link fence to stop a mosquito.

Ross,

How about my coworkers wife? She worked in a nursing home. Required to wear masks, gloves, and get vaccinated. 2 weeks after she got the shot, she was admitted to the hospital. 3 blood clots in her lungs. She can’t breathe properly. She can no longer exercise. She can no longer work. One doctor ran a series of tests but wouldn’t say what he found. Another specialist from Minneapolis phoned up and said that they have seen this in people who have gotten one of the shots. The specialist said it hasn’t been talked about a lot because every time the doctors who find this stuff bring it up, they get threatened with malpractice or losing their job.

So we aren’t sure what caused it or what happened. We probably won’t ever know because it’s not apart of their agenda.

Now his wife can no longer live without oxygen.

Now that’s something Sad but True.

I’m sick of your bs Ross. You are obviously incapable of making your own decisions so you rely on the government to do that for yourself. Not everyone is lazy like you.

Find another hobby. Smell the roses.

No one is convincing the other to change sides. The sad part about pissing matches like these threads is no matter what, you get the yellow stuff on yourself. Should we have debates? Of course! Should it be stating opinions repetitively in hopes of winning a rat race? NO.

Ross, you clearly are the one that is stupid. For some odd reason, you think that your opinion must be stated over and over. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. There are 5 pages to this monstrosity of a topic and you apparently can't get your voice to be loud enough. As always, you double down instead of backing off. You've made several racial and sexist comments on this forum on many occasions AND DOUBLED DOWN ON THAT TOO! There's proof all over the internet of your disgraceful comments here.

You are not the king of RYPN. SHUT UP.

For crying out loud, why does this keep going? Nobody is convincing anyone of anything at this point.

Nor are those who declare COVID is something other than everyone in health care and science (with peer reviewed papers to confirm it) have already proven.

Just go ahead and toss this thread in the pile of examples of why some of y'all have a hard time getting younger people involved.

Well folks,

These types of threads are actually needed. They do teach and educate, even if it takes a while for some people to realize what the lesson actually is. After all, human nature is, ... well, human nature.

Each side is trying to convince the other side that their position is "right", and the other side is "wrong". Each side will try various tactics to overcome the objections and counter-arguments of the other so that their side will prevail in the end. These tactics can be quite manipulative at times.

When wordsmithing and browbeating fail, the losing side will begin to seek out more power sufficient enough to control others by force in order to overcome their own shortcomings. We see this play out in these threads all the time. The losing side starts to scream "shut down the thread". They start to hurl insults, or other vulgarities, or engage in vicious slander to try to intimidate the other side into silence.

These traits are exhibited in persons who are losing the argument. So, while some might get upset reading these threads, if the threads are allowed to play out to their natural conclusion, society is better served.

I will not attack Mr. Rowland for speaking his mind. I will not call for him to "shut up". I want him to speak his mind. I will respectfully listen to his words always.

Now, my position is quite clear. This song probably sums up my position better than any words I type here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRKi2V9h7LY

So, the question becomes; if we cannot reach a single common consensus to the issue, what compromises can be reached that allows each side to co-exist peacefully?

I find it amazing that we cannot turn this discussion into a thread on how best to balance the positions of the competing ideas to make a policy that both sides can live with. In the event that a common position cannot be reached, then we can each choose our own paths, and we will wish the other side well, and go our merry ways.

The problem is not the problem we are debating, but rather the failure to use appropriate problem solving skills in order to reach a broader consensus.

Sad, but true.....

If anyone wonders why RYPN is seen as a industry joke, or if railroad preservation is failing, just read this thread. Remember when we used to talk about trains?

Wrong. I don't care what you think as long as you don't bother me. One side wants to dictate dominion over others, and one wants to be left alone to manage their own health in conformity with the dictates of their own risk evaluation, conscience and the advice of a competently educated and experienced physician who has made a proper physical examination and inquiry of medical history.

What we have here is human imperiousness cloaked in public health, that curious form of lust known as Libido Dominandi.

Everybody is different. I cannot donate blood. If you ever have the TV on at night, you've no doubt heard of the medication that says it shouldn't be administered if you or a member of your family have medullary thyroid cancer.

When wordsmithing and browbeating fail, the losing side will begin to seek out more power sufficient enough to control others by force in order to overcome their own shortcomings.

Precisely. Maybe you like the idea of drones approaching you and berating you to suppress "your soul's" (it is funny how the most atheistic regimes infuse inherently religious ideas into their programs) desire for freedom. Yet that is life in China, a dystopian nightmare that would make Orwell and Huxley blush. Starvation is health! Isolation is community!

Dumbo ears with a Napoleon Complex Fauci (did you know "fauci" means jaws in Italian, how ironic he won't stop flapping his) wants to be exempt from the rule of law. What the hell?

Well where's the virtue in not engaging in a futile effort? He wouldn't comply and you have neither the authority or the capacity to enforce such a decree.

However, let's not forget, Ross is not loathe to to attempt to "shut up" others. Some of you noobs might not remember he threated to sue people and shut down this forum. Why should he get any more respect than he gives is beyond me.

I'll be referring to him as "Karossen" from now on.

Additionally, he has no problem throwing around the word "stupid", while conflating masks with genomic therapy-which are two separate issues, except for the common thread of pseudo-medical busybodydom. My guess that while berating others, he can't distinguish between DNA and RNA viruses, which is why he keeps referring to a "vaccine", rather than MRNA genomic therapy. Oh well another irony. The etymology of the word vaccine means "from the cow".

I wish he'd finish this, instead of playing doctor.

Look, there's no "compromise" here. I don't go around insisting people take off their masks.

If it gives you weird comfort fine. I follow my doctors advice to keep my Vitamin D above 50 and takes zinc, quercetin and the other things he's prescribed. I don't bother the kid that wears a 90 dollar, 13mm powerlifting belt while struggling to bench 135. I pity them and hope they don't reproduce. I demand nothing but reciprocity.

No one is saying that getting vaccinated is 100%effective in preventing you to contract Covid and get sick enough from it to die. No, if you get fully vaccinated plus booster it's 96% effective in preventing you from ending up on a ventilator.

And, masks as well are NOT 100% effective. The common blue cloth ones are only about 60 % effective while the N95's are close to 85% effective in preventing you from getting Covid or infecting others.

I've thought about it some more and do think the time has come to insist that anyone requiring hospitalization on account of Covid who is unvaccinated must pay an upfront down payment in cash ( $ 50,000 ? ) AND agree to be responsible for all hospital charges incurred during their treatment. Those that have a legitimate medical reason for not getting the shots will be exempted.

After all they made a conscience choice to remain unprotected and choices have consequences. I believe this policy will drive the vast majority of the remaining hold outs to get the shots.

Worth a try. Ross Rowland

Others have told you to give it a rest, so I won't.

But since you like repetition, here's mine:

World Class Oncologist: Do not get the the shot, we don't know how it will react with your cancer.

Aging Commodities Trader. You're "stupid" if you don't get the vax.

Easy choice.

Nobody wants to hear about an old man playing doctor.

How many shares of PFE and MRNA do you own Karossen? You have long calls on them?

I've been staying out of the back-and-forth not related to actual rail preservation/tourism, for the most part.

But this resurfaced in my Facebook feed today, from eight years ago--but relevant here and now:

Quote:
Adapted from an essay about--ironically--accepting dissent to the ideas of gay marriage:
No one will trust or talk to someone who calls them, in effect, a racist or bigot, the worst thing you can be in America. Using ostracization or government force to further one's goals alienates the opposition further. Winning converts, finishing the fight, requires taking people on a journey toward seeing their viewpoint--be it accepting homosexuality/gay marriage, opposing abortion, universal healthcare, limited government, expanded government, gun control, whatever--in a new light. It’s a process, and an accusatory approach--calling them racist, bigoted, anti-science, anti-freedom, evil, whatever--aborts the process completely.
