Surviving Wawa and Concordville Open Cars

On December 28 photos of two former Wawa and Concordville open cars(converted from CNJ Boxcars) taken by Mike L Folkes on 11/23/03 at Concordville, PA were posted to George EllwoodÂ’s rr-fallenflags.net.

They can be seen at:

Here's roster info on the two W&C open air cars remaining at Concordville. This is excerpted from my forthcoming history of the W&C:

Un-numbered Open Air Ivy Mills. Ex-Central Railroad of New Jersey 40Â’ wooden boxcar. Built by American Car & Foundry in 1916? Later purchased by Bethlehem Steel and used for intra-plant tours. Donated to Lawrence H. Myers for use on Wawa & Concordville, Inc. in 1966. Converted to open-air car at Chester Tidewater Terminal, Chester, Pa. Sold for $700 for Wawa & Concordville Inc. on 9/11/1967. Used on W&C 1967-1968. Was painted tuscan red and trimmed in royal blue and yellow. Stored 1969-present. Owned by ?, stored in poor condition at Concordville, Pa., adjacent to James Pool Co. 50-passenger capacity

Un-numbered Open Air Chadds Ford. Ex-Central Railroad of New Jersey 40Â’ wooden boxcar. Built by American Car & Foundry in 1916? Later purchased by Bethlehem Steel and used for intra-plant tours. Is there any equipment on the siding at Chester
Heights? It was used for storeage during the
operations.

As an afficianodo of the Wawa and Concordville, (I go on searches of the old line a lot), I can assure you that no other equiptment is anywhere along the line. Most of the tracks and bridges are still there, as well as the ruins of the old Wawa Station. (Foundation, sidewalk .

My question is, the old Chester Heights station, nothing more of a shack really, where was that? Was it behind the Chester Heights post office? It had a set of stairs..........I've been searching for remnants.

I only remember a siding on the South side of
the tracks, I think West of the bridge under the
highway. It may have been a private siding for
a lumber yard, instead of the Chester Hts. team
track. I don't remember a station building.
I rode on a Friday, probably in Sept., 1968.
