We've posted better ones on the MOT Website, at the link. The grills have been installed behind the cab windows on the Aerotrain, and the scaffolding is gone. The shot of the Class C is a better overall 3/4 one. Enjoy and come to our open house this weekend.

Lookin' good!

What kind of engine was in this thing, anyway? Ignoring expense for a moment, how difficult would it be to locate motors and a prime mover to re-install?

If I remember, Diesel Spotters Guide said it was a 12-cylinder EMD model 567 prime mover, 1200 HP.

I imagine it ought to be relatively simple to find one, plus motors [I take it the power unit has neither?] on the aftermarket.

You are right. The engine was a 12 cylinder 567C, which the Rock could reuse elsewhere. They removed everything that was standard GM and reusable, so there is nothing in the body but the control stand and seats. The stand is made with smaller than standard size parts to fit the available space, so they left that, along with the custom seats. But there is no engine, generator, air compressor, etc. The nose held engines for the air conditioning, and they are gone as well, as is even the toilet. Sure, engines and other parts are available, but the cost is way beyond our means. We are grateful to the Gateway Chapter, NMRA, which made a substantial donation to make the present work possible. Far more would be needed to make it anywhere near operational, assuming we would be willing to sink such funds into this project in competition with others all around us. It does look good though. Rock Island heralds will be applied again soon and work on the coaches continues.

Can you turn the first coach?

The key to doing this is finding a way to operate the odd couplers and separate the coach from the loco. Of course, the Rock turned some coaches to place the steps of two cars together, so it's accurate both ways.

If it had a 1200hp 567 engine, I would suggest that you look into buying a SW1200 that is heading to the scrap heap. Buy the loco, take what parts you need off it and scrap the rest of the loco. Possible source for a canidate is Omnitrax in Colorado.
