Okay? Where is it going?

This locomotive was recently photographed on a flat bed truck near Atlanta, Georgia. It appears to be National Cash Register 0-4-0F "Dayton" from the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA. If I'm wrong on the id, I'll certainly be embarrassed, but even the rivet patterns match photos from the museum.

So has it left the museum? And if so, where is it going? And if it isn't the locomotive I think it is, what is it?

I can confirm that it is the Dayton, but I cannot offer anything substantial on where it's going beyond rumor. If anyone is interested in rumor, I hear it is "going home". That may be Ohio, possibly even Carillon Park to be rejoined with the sister Rubicon. But that is little more than speculation on my part.

I'm surprised to see it's finally left. Southeastern RR Museum has been working on deaccesing and finding a suitable new home for the Dayton for over a year now.

It was de-accessioned by SRM and was previously listed here and on the AOTT Facebook page for proposals. The Museum has now been allowed to formally disclose the successful proposal was to Dayton History at Carillon Park in Dayton, OH. We are extremely pleased that the Dayton now will have a much brighter future and cosmetic restoration can begin to allow display on the same campus as NCR’s Rubicon. This process is part of an ongoing process to better focus SRM’s collection and to be a good custodian of our collection. Please refer to Dayton History’s media feeds for future updates on this locomotive and we wish Dayton History the best on it’s future restoration and display.

maybe they can also de accession the AWP 290 to somewhere like TVRM where it could be cosmetically put back together and displayed for the first time in 25 years or so.

I was hoping it was going home! The Carillon Park is a really great place to visit if you ever get the chance. They have a B&O Grasshopper on display that is possibly the oldest in the country.
