I've been in contact with the Railway Museum in Havana at the Cristina Station. They are in possession of 5 Rogers Locomotive, the largest single collection of Rogers Locomotives in the world. They have made cosmetic restoration of the Rogers locomotives a priority. Below are a couple of photos La Junta, a 4-2-2 built in 1843, this is the oldest existing Rogers locomotive. I have offered to help track down information on their equipment that may exist here in the US. If anyone has any leads on Rogers records please let me know.

The Cuban government has recognized steam locomotives as historic treasures and desires to preserve the remaining locomotives on the island. I inquired about preserved rolling stock and there is not much at all.

I will add more pertaining to the remaining Rogers locomotives in the collection as time permits. I'm also happy to try to answer questions related to equipment or railways in Cuba.

Many thanks, Tom Gears

Pleased to find out about this - friends visited Cuba years ago when steam was still running in the sugar cane fields and were amazed at what was still there.

I'm grateful for your cooperation with the Cuban preservationists, Tom. What you are doing has a ripple effect on how citizens can do good for each other, across borders.

This, from the government who not too long ago scrapped steam engines because gringos were showing interest. One of them was almost the same class as the earlier ET&WNC ten wheelers...
