YMCA historically was in the SRO (single room occupancy) business for men. People forget about that today as it is now the local pool and gym. When I was a kid they still had a few men living in my local Y but wouldn’t continue with that when the last moved away. The places continuing in this business - such as the one in Bellevue - as far as I know aren’t part of Y any more. Plus in many towns (such as where I live now) the codes don’t allow the SROs to operate any more.

Reading PA's YMCA has been repurposed into a rescue mission. You may have to scroll to see the Reading Company name on the building.
