What almost always stopped their plans dead is the HUGE "entry fee" assessed upon such immigrants to make up for the 20-30 years they haven't spent paying into the socialist-style cradle-to-grave "safety net" via extraordinary high levels (by U.S. standards) of taxation. In one case, it was well into six figures in US dollars.

I've known ONE couple personally that did emigrate, a multi-millionaire computer software engineer and his wife that emigrated to the Isle of Man. He had enough money, and he had planned the move for some time, in part for tax purposes, as soon as the three kids were old enough to be self-sufficient. Meanwhile, the ones that actually do leave for "political" reasons don't announce it publicly--they just move themselves and/or the production factory from California, Pennsylvania or Illinois to Arizona, Texas or Florida.

Yeah.

And consider what I said about things, about how I'm pretty old fashioned, but that I've become embarrassed to call myself conservative.

Really, the conservative crowd in this country has become mighty dumb--and also mean. I was brought up better than that.

I can't get over people supporting others who were, and are, the opposite of what we were all taught to be. Sadly that includes most of my direct family members, and the same for my wife's family as well.

Oh, check out what I say about the labor crisis, and where we've gone. You might find it interesting--and maybe you'll even agree with it.

I’m a little unsure where this new railyard is? As you are arriving at Leaman Place, is it on the right where the picnic tables were? Or is it on the left where that access road / open lot was?

It is to the left, but on the other side of the Rt 30 bridge, out of direct sight from the tourist line passing track. You can see it on Google maps, or see the construction work.

Hello,

Perhaps propane offload at Leaman place would be another freight opportunity. (Realizing these days, suggesting such are fighting words as we are still reeling from the East Palestine disaster.)

Not sure if it makes sense and NS/Amtrak don’t already have customers already doing this in the area. The short line in Avondale, PA has a small set out yard where they are doing this in the center of town as observed on my many trips via Route 41 to DE when I still had a foot in PA. Down here in the Delmar Peninsula it’s pretty steady business as evident by the strings of LPG cars on the long passing siding north of town here in Wyoming.

Based on Kelly’s suggestion on SR being a switching partner, maybe it would work. As an observed in Avondale (as recalled) the offload facility there was like a mobile or simplified platform. Down here we have purpose built offload sidings which (3) tank cars or so can be offloaded simultaneously with very extensive elevated permanent worker platforms and larger truck parking all within a secured, fenced yard.

Assuming car owners can keep axle bearings from failing, it’s a business that seems fairly steady and goes quietly on.

Regard,

Randy

Just adding this here as the handiest place to put it--a pair of "then and now" photos at Leaman Place, featuring the station that was once there--from the Facebook page Railroads Then and Now, as posted by Gregory D. Pawelski:
