Does anyone on the forum know a source for plans for a diamond pattern (of any sort) or a Rushton stack? I know that they were made in many sizes but any set of plans in any size would be welcome. We need to fabricate such a stack for a small locomotive and we can alter any set of plans to fit our needs.

The Baldwin collections (Harrisburg, and possible at Degolyer) has some drawings of those, and if you are familiar with the way Baldwin drew those drawings, they were scalable.

Everett,

I've got a Baldwin erecting card for Bock Lumber #1, a very cute 0-4-4T. It's in my emails, and I'd be glad to forward it to you if you can send me your email by PM.

Here's a photo of Bock Lumber #1 and her stack as mentioned by Sammy.

Les & Everett,

The version of this engine with the diamond stack is fresh from the builder --- a bit different than in your foto.

I don't have actual references, but I believe there are dimensioned and patent drawings for the Radley & Hunter stack online.

I didn’t check through Google patents so that’s a possibility. However this is the only Rushton image that pops up on an quick image search: https://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/file.php?1,file=20211,filename=Ruston_Stack_drawing_Bergstrom_Col.jpg

For some reason I remember some of the Radley & Hunter information in connection with a discussion of the Mason bogie locomotive, in a discussion either of the detail design in his patents or with reference to a specific locomotive.

Here is a link to a dimensioned pdf drawing of the Lima Diamond Stack made but not used for Climax SN 1551 at Cass. The drawing is "As Built" following Standard Cass practice for its locomotives (except 1551 - aka No. 9).

This is CASS practice not Lima and may vary from from a standard Lima diamond stack although it uses a Lima Diamond Stack Cone.

All dimensions are taken from the original. The only things missing are the Lift Rings on the Sides of the upper surface, the latches for the mesh stack cap and the mesh stack cap itself. Unfortunately, it was unfinished when MSR&LHA left its Cass Shop.

As an aside, on one occassion the 3/4" support rods on one of the Shays at Cass wore away to such an extent that that a number failed and the cast iron Cone fell down and plugged the inner cylinder which prevented the locomotive boiler from drafting much to the surprise of the crew of the locomotive.
