GVT Rail System and the Delaware-Lackawanna RR will be providing a public viewing area for the triumphant arrival of ALCO PA Nickel Plate 190 tomorrow evening.
Arrival is scheduled for approximately 5:30PM, and the viewing area will be on the north side of the tracks just to the southwest of the bus station. The best and most available parking would be at the Steamtown Mall garage.
With this, we ask that everyone is respectful of railroad property in advance of, during, and after the event. We thank you for that.

Saw visual proof online that 190 is sitting in the ex DL&W/EL/CR/D&H/CP now NS Taylor yard in the Scranton area this morning.

You're welcome. It was interesting for many reasons, including that it was able to move 3,000 miles and spend nights in several yards apparently without being damaged.

I love the PA's as much as anyone and glad she's stored inside and reasonably protected.
But calling it "Steamtown"? Just plain sad.

There was an experienced escort following the entire move by automobile. While expensive, that is a good move if it can be done. This no doubt contributed to the lack of damage to the PA en route.

Absolutely. I've been such an escort.

As further evidence of the above, I was once assigned to cover four cars going from Chicago to south Florida. They left Chicago clean. The railroad (CSX) hustled them so fast that the first escort out of Chicago gave up, assuming I'd catch up with them in southern Indiana or Kentucky. But CSX kept the cut hustling so fast that even with a course correction in mid-Ohio I couldn't catch up with them until Waycross, Georgia--and two of the cars had sustained full-height graffiti in the meantime, IN SPITE of that nearly-nonstop movement! Then, ironically, we sat for four days straight in Baldwin, Florida..........

GVT announced that NKP #190 is now fully operational and will make it's public debut on an invitation-only excursion on July 11th, with Doyle McCormack on hand to celebrate. Further public excursions later in the year to be announced.

Is the PA really pulling the train? I haven't seen any video of the PA moving on its own.

Such subterfuge is not unheard of obviously (I had a nice ride pulled by TP&W GP-38s in 1980 from East Peoria to Keokuk IA and back that we had paid to ride behind NKP 765, which was on the point but non-operational). But if you look at the second video I posted you can see smoke coming out of the PA's stack at 4:50. Could be idling, but I think someone would have mentioned feeling cheated by now if it weren't "pulling".
