That stretch is really boring and pretty much flat. Big Boy won't be doing much. A better choice would be Laramie to Cheyenne or vise versa. Will go down in record books as most expensive cab ride ever. Pretty sure they could sell a dozen of these cab rides in short order. Lucky for the people who get to ride on the Big Boy.

No doubt somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the fair thing to do in this case be to award the cab ride to the highest legitimate bidder, for the amount of his bid ?? Instead, they let some kid manipulate the mighty Union Pacific Railroad. Since when does the tail wag the dog ???

As I understand it, if you don’t withdraw your bid before the auction is complete and you’re the winning bidder, that’s a legally binding agreement with potential ramifications if you try to back out. It would be up to the seller let let you out of that agreement whether with damages or not. The seller then has the right to either offer the sale to the next highest bidder or to cancel the auction or start all over again. Different auctions have different details in their rules, but that’s the general gist of it.

Back in the day, you could see who you were bidding against and even track what they were bidding on later.
I assume that changed because people would troll you to push up anything you were bidding on, or make sure you never won. You could bid against the person you didn't like, keep pushing those bids up until you had the highest bid, then retract that bid, and the other person was then stuck with their highest bid (and you were a fool back then to have a really high bid, for this reason).

According to my math, you could DRIVE the 1309 for 7 hours, for less than $9500.
