Wondering what happened to the Amtrak Exhibition Train that was formed for the 40th anniversary and made it's way around the system for a few years following it.

It's defacto home-base was Penn coach yard at 30th street and I recall seeing it there as late as 2019. I was by 30th street the other day and did not see it. Was the fleet dissolved / what is the disposition of those exhibit cars?

In a recent video by Alan Fisher (aka "The Armchair Urbanist") on the new Acela trains, you can see the baggage cars that were once part of the display train still at the coach yard at 30th Street.

No word on what their future use will be or if the interiors are intact.

I suspect this is more a 'railfanning' subject than a 'preservation' one, since I doubt many museums would have a place for, or interest in, what would remain of the exhibition train. We've had it visit Memphis at least twice, and it seemed reasonably patronized both times.

My opinion was that the train was mothballed, partly for perceived financial concerns and partly due to the COVID-19 business. Someone with access to the coachyard might be able to check and see how much of the interiors are still there -- if the train had the interiors I saw, it would be fairly expensive to 'tube' them and as far as I know Amtrak has no sensible alternative use for the cars.

I guess by this logic any post about UP 4014 should be considered a 'railfaning' subject then?

For all intents and purposes, that has been essentially a display train with a public schedule with the big difference being age of equipment.

Personally, I don't appreciate that remark; we're all here to enjoy the same thing. I consider railfanning to be the following of everyday equipment, where any attempt to celebrate the history and heritage of railroading (whether through museums, non-profits, or current major RRs honoring their own history) to fall under the umbrella of preservation.
