That's super interesting with the rods. Wish they'd do a video on the process of a new rod being made. Outside of D&S have any mainline large locomotives had replacement rods forged in the preservation era?
D&S must be subbing out the forging right?

"The locomotive received a new boiler in 1948". The K37's originally were built using the boilers off of standard gauge 2-8-0's. Was 492's "new boiler" a completely new boiler, or was it from a different standard gauge 2-8-0? If it was a new boiler, was it built by the D&RGW in its shops, or did it come from one of the locomotive builders, all of which were probably still in business in 1948?

I've heard nothing about a "new boiler" being built for the 492 in 1948, so I have to figure that, what had to be a bad boiler, was replaced with a boiler from one of the still existing C-41 class standard gauge 2-8-0's. Although most of the C-41 class had been retired, a few of the engines survived the Second World War with the very last one (number 1002) lasting all the way to 1952. Of the late survivors, two (numbers 1000 and 1025) were actually retired in 1948 and one (number 1015) had been retired just a year earlier. My guess is that the boiler on one of those three provided the "new boiler" that was applied to the 492 in 1948, and its bad boiler was scrapped. When narrow gauge K-37 number 496 was discovered to have a cracked boiler in 1955, there were no C-41 engines still around, so the 496 was just scrapped.

So that "new boiler in 1948" maybe should have read "replacement boiler in 1948". New or replaced, it's great to hear that C&TS is going to restore the 492 to service.
