One of those MARC units stored at Minerva is originally an Illinois Central E unit. This one should be a priority for preservation by SOMEBODY, as there are no preserved IC E's.

Perhaps that somebody ought to be the Monticello RY msueum in Ill. They have a pretty complete set of IC passenger equipment. Would look better than the Alco switcher on the head end (although thats pretty nice too).

I've been in communication with the owner(s) of these locos for years. I believe that the "appropriate" museum curators are aware of this loco (actually, I *think* two are IC and two PRR) and have also been in touch. For the moment, however, the owner(s) are forced to consider this a business proposition, not a goodwill or charity project.

IF someone is seriously interested in the IC E8 and willing to pass the hat for some serious money for a working loco in great mechanical condition, contact me at the above address (remove the "NOSPAM" and the hyphens) and I'll pair him or her up with the owner. I'm guessing, however, that the price would be in the $50K range......... Not bad when you consider I rode it at 70 mph a short while back.......
