I note the director of the Fort Morgan Museum in Colorado is looking for photos and info to put two of the Great Western saddle tankers on the state and national registers, hopefully to get some funding for restoration. One, if front of the museum itself is the former Brighton, CO engine and the other is either the former Brush or the Fort Morgan factory engine. A third, the former Loveland locomotive, was still at the sugar factory in Fort Morgan last I knew, displayed by the on ramp to the interstate. The latter operated until about 1980, and several times after that on special occasions. The other two are in pretty tough shape and none would win any beauty contests.

Anybody have any idea as to how many steam locomotives built by the Davenport Locomotive Works are still in existence? I know that there were quite a few Davenport saddletankers in use by Great Western Sugar Company. Are the three mentioned by Bob the only ones left?

The November 2003 update to "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" is about to come out of the oven; but the May 2003 release lists 75 Davenport locomotives, 51 of them in North America.

Mentioned here recently (and also pictured in J. David Conrad's directory) is the one on display in Anchorage, AK; it is the first thing you see when you open "Surviving World Steam Locomotives". I have photographed two of them myself; one in a cement works turned shopping mall in San Antonio, Texas; the other is a former sugar locomotive on display in Opelousas, Louisiana.

The program CD-ROM also includes a picture of a US Army 0-6-0T that was built by Davenport during WWII, and is still operational wearing it's USATC livery at a museum in the Netherlands.

Here is a picture of the Davenport at the Jim Bowie Museum in Opelousas, LA.

My "Surviving World Steam Locomotive" CD-ROM also has a picture of yet another GWSCX Davenport. It is privately owned in Colorado. It was apparently a wreck when he recieved it; it is now a static display on freight car wheels with a rebuilt wooden cab. He has repainted it in GWSCX colors.
