I saw a write-up about the proposed archive building. It may have been on Facebook.

An address for the building was included in the write-up and I search on Google map for the address. The location does not seem to be near the railroads. Rather, it is in a mixed residential/commercial area; and the address shows a two-story building with a commercial front.

My thoughts are that the building will provide enough space to consolidate, process, and organize the items in the depot building and the former farmhouse.

To find a suitable building, they may have had to go all the way to Mt Union.

Both communities rely on volunteer fire departments.

The pit track in the Mt. Union engine house has 4 rails, to solve a similar problem.

it would be simpler if you were going to need to turn Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge Loco's to just Acquire a large enough turntable that would suit any visitor

a 4 rail dual gauge wye would work. you would just be at the constraints of minimum degree turning radius for any visitor and tightness of having the narrow gauge track sitting inside the standard gauge track and 6 frogs involved

There's no reason a three rail dual gauge wye would be an impossibility. One leg would require, for want of a better term, a crossover similar to a gauntlet track that would swap which rail is shared by both gauges. This is of course assuming the need for a wye, and the need for that wye to be dual gauge. Something to remember is that people have been building railroads for roughly 200 years, and in that time there haven't been too many challenges without at least three different solutions of varying practicality.

The previously removed wye in Mt. Union was dual gauge. I don't know the correct term for the hardware involved, but, there was trackwork on one leg of the wye that would transition the 3rd rail to the correct side.

Special trackwork can be fun. Dual gauge just makes it even more fun.

Those look like American-style wood-framed buildings on the left, but I can't guess where this is. Australia? Do they have these gauges, what looks like meter and standard gauge?

I routinely save photos of unique specialwork out of professional interest. In this case, I had neglected to take note of the location, but was eventually able to retrace my steps. It's in Switzerland.

A dual gauge Turntable as in Wernigerode might do the job as well.

Cheers,

Note that, with a little attention to offset center-bearing support, a Wernigerode-type turntable could be implemented with just three rails, and additional indexing locks. That would eliminate the need to gantlet all the approach tracks.

You line the two functional narrow-gauge rails, whichever the common rail is, with the rails the narrow-gauge equipment is sitting on. We don't care if the standard-gauge track lines up at the same time.

There's a little bit of an angular mismatch, which for the slow speeds and permissible gauge slop in this operation ought to be tolerable, even for eight-coupled rigid wheelbase. a little strategic gauge widening (perhaps with flange-bearing plates) at and near the gap ought to solve any issues...
