As we at the American Industrial Railroad Society approach the end of the restoration on #4's cab, we are also beginning to prepare for what's coming as we enter the new year. For those that haven't followed the progression on Facebook or our website here is a peek at where the cab started, and how it is now. The cab project was fully funded by a combination of donations and a generous grant from the St. Louis Chapter, National Railway Historical Society. A little more paint work, lettering, windows, and the wood lining remain before it is officially done.





While we finish up the cab the next phase of #4's return to steam is looming- the tender. This is one situation where we feel that putting the cart before the horse is best. The rehabilitation of our little engine's tender will be extensive. The years have taken their toll on this part of the engine and we will need your help as we begin to evaluate and repair or replace various parts of the tank, frame, and trucks. The tank will essentially be built new using viable portions of the original, while the timber frame will also be made new as the original no longer exists with the exceptions of any incorporated castings. The trucks we have now that came with #4 when we bought it never went with the engine. At some point the ones we have now were acquired for it, and they too will essentially be made new reusing parts of what we have, parts made or purchased new, or scavenged from other donor trucks.
