Erie Stillwells, where are they now?

There are two Erie Stillwells alongside a former restaurant now garden center along Route 22 in Whitehouse, NJ. These cars may have come via Black River years ago. There may be a Stillwell or two in the URHS collection.

The steam engine group in Buckley, MI owns a Stillwell, which it pulls around its loop of track with its steam engine at its annual festival. I think this one came from the Cadillac & Lake City RR in Michigan.

Is the gas-electric car at the Ohio Railway Museum a Stilwell-type design? It has the same odd roof contour.

I saw a Stilwell in use as a gift shop at a shopping center in Rockford, Michigan some time back, but don't know if it's still there, adjacent to the ex-GR&I right-of-way. I presume this was an ex C&LC car. I wonder if the Buckley car is the one used briefly on a tourist line between Bay View and Alanson, Michigan. This car was memorable for its conversion to an open-platform design, and the operator's solution to rust in the side-sill area, which was to attach wood siding to cover it up.

And I think the Texas State Railroad has, or had, some Stilwells.

Yes it is. Interesting car with two wintons crammed in side by side. No room for the fat mechanic.

What kind of shape is she in? Does the museum still use her?

Chris: If the car came from the C&LC, then it is most likely a former Chicago & Western Indiana (and probably ex-Erie) Stillwell. What kind of shape is she in and do you happen to know her number?

Like most everything at ORM, Erie 5012 has gone from fully operational to almost beyond hope. At least three other museums/preservation groups have made serious offers for her in the last 10 years, all have been turned down.

Not sure if someone mentioned this, but the California Western "Skunk Train" used some of them. I don't know if they still have them though.

As David has already mentioned, the WVRR has purchased three ex-Steamtown Stillwells. They are #2607(Steamtown #3), #2629(#2) and #2633(#4). Currently they are located at RMDI waiting for the "Stillwell Sleds"(tm) to arrive.
