Each year, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (GeorgiaTrust.org) releases a list of Georgia's Most Endangered Historic Places. This "Places in Peril program seeks to identify and preserve historic sites threatened by demolition, neglect, lack of maintenance, inappropriate development or insensitive public policy."

Here is the Southeast Railway Museum's entry on the 2025 list.

The Trust has a 1-minute long video on Youtube about their 2025 list: 2025 Places in Peril

Coming on the heels of the Wilmington and Western's announcement, and with the events in Indiana a few years ago, this is sobering. I believe someone from the SE Railway Museum posts here from time to time; perhaps he can share some thoughts about this?

Judging a book by its cover...

I've not paid any attention to that operation, so I clicked on the article. I saw a photo of a large campus with several large buildings. Everything is nice and clean and well organized. I see a park train with a freshly ballasted track. No obvious piles of junk that are so common.

All in all, at a glance it looks impressive. Not all of the equipment is under cover, but that's a typical problem. Is there more to the story, or just more equipment to restore than money to restore it?

All,

This is not a "sky is falling" situation. The place is in better shape, in many ways, than it's ever been. However, there is still much work to be done. The "Places in Peril" designation the opportunities that come with it are a "win" rather than a sign of impending doom.
