staybolt and rivet material

We are looking for a source of staybolt material Meeting the ASTM SA-31 or SA-36 specs. called out in the ASME boiler code. We plan to machine these bolts ourselves into threaded stays for use in firebox repair. We want a bar that drives easilly without cracking in the formed heads.

Also, we need a souce of approved boiler rivets meating the SA-31 spec. We prefer a grade A as it is softer and less likely to crack.

I don't know of any suppliers off-hand for staybolt material. Champion Rivet Company (http://www.championrivet.com/) has previously been recommended here as a good source for rivets.

Dave,

We have SA-675 gr 55 in some sizes. This is the softest we have found thus far though it still isn't as nice as original iron stock which was 48k-55k. This stuff is just over 61k.

Northwest Staybolt Company has been providing staybolts made from select domestic SA-36 for about 18 years. Total production is now approaching 3000 bolts. Generally the steel we use is about 69K tensile, and occasionally we get a little that makes SA-31B. Haven't had any major complaints yet.

Working on the rivet steel angle. We might have some 7/8 bar that makes SA-31A, but the lab tests and paperwork are pending.
