Great news from FWRHS, NYC 3001's initial fundraising goal is at the halfway mark

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has raised more than $283,000 to restore New York Central L-3a 4-8-2 “Mohawk” 3001, more than halfway to its initial $500,000 fundraising goal. To help meet that goal before May 1, a new grant has been established that will match every dollar given up to $20,000.

If this momentum keeps up, the goal could be reached by late April

In the spirit of an all-NYC consist, I wonder how difficult (read: expensive) it would be to acquire the surviving TH&B Hudson tender from Steamtown and convert it into a water car for the 3001. Obviously the tank would need major reconstruction or complete replacement to undo its heater car conversion, at which point I guess it goes back to the old historical fabric debate. And of course that's all purely academic unless Steamtown is willing to let it go in the first place.

Anyway, congratulations on the fundraising progress!

I believe the purchase agreement for 3001 includes the ex-NYC tender that has been used as an aux tender behind 2101 on the AFT and Chessie Steam Special. It will be used in the same capacity for 3001 if I understand correctly.
