The Louisiana Steam Train Association announced today that it has been asked to vacate the property where it's equipment has been stored for many years. Oschner Hospital, the property owner has need to develop the property and has given the association until the end of 2025 to vacate the property. Two steam locomotives, former Texas and New Orleans 2-8-2 #745 and Bisso Towing Company 0-6-0 #2, plus several diesel locomotives, cabooses and passenger cars are currently on the property.

No information has come forth from LASTA as to where the equipment may be moved.

I'm confused:

On their FB page they say "The Louisiana Steam Train Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization run entirely by volunteers.

And indeed they show it as

Louisiana Steam Train Association
EIN: 72-1382807 | Metairie, Louisiana, United States

It shows as up to date with 990N "post card" returns.

However, there is also a Determination letter from May 2022 for a Private Operating Foundation, when LASTA combined with the Garyville Timbermill.

Louisiana Steam Train Association Garyville Timbermill Museum Joint
EIN: 88-2534256 | Laplace, Louisiana, United States

https://apps.irs.gov/pub/epostcard/dl/F ... 022_00.tif

IRS Select check does not show a history of receiving a 990-PF for 2022, 2023 or 2024. Assuming they are on a calendar year fiscal year-the 990, these should have been filed by May 15 of each following year, unless an extension was filed.

The 990-PF's are not shown as filed, unless this isn't the right organization. The Garyville Timbermill (Listed as a 501c3 charity) filed regularly until 2021.

Perhaps somebody from the organization can explain the nature and relationship of these organizations.

Having just run across another organization that is behind on 990 filing, I'm hoping this isn't a pattern.

I'm not from the organization, but I can fill in a blank. The Garyville Timbermill Museum is their future permanent home - where plans and funding are underway for them to eventually move there.
