The name involved will be familiar to many of us in Eastern rail preservation--a long-time "lone wolf" with a caboose collection set up as lodging:

Quote:
CATAWISSA, Pa. — Tucked away off of Main Street in Catawissa sits a property containing a locomotive and numerous cabooses. This is the site of the Catawissa Railroad Station Museum.

Walter Gosciminski has owned these pieces of railroad history since the 1990s. But that's not where his love for locomotives started. He purchased the old Reading Railroad Station back in 1979. He says his passion stemmed from being born and raised between the Reading and Pennsylvania railroads in Catawissa.

"It made such an impression on the area that we have streets named like Catawissa and Catawissa avenues from here to Philadelphia, and that's all because of the railroad," said Walter Gosciminski, Catawissa Railroad Station Museum owner.

Gosciminski says he owned a restaurant in the railroad station before he bought the cabooses and engines. He says that after he closed it in the 1990s, he bought 14 cabooses and two locomotives. Gosciminski says he restored them to what they looked like when they were in service.

"I cross-referenced them back to what railroad they were, their original numbers, and that was an easy thing for me because I did 18 years in auto body. I did all the painting and the lettering," said Gosciminski.

Although having this collection has been fun, now, Gosciminski is looking to sell it and the train station. He says simply that he wants to take a break.

"I have other properties, and I'd just like to pass it on to somebody else, and like I said earlier, I'd rather sell it to somebody that would keep everything here," said Gosciminski.

Aside from this being a tribute to railroad history, Gosciminski also operates a lodge where you can stay inside of the cabooses from April to October. He says it's been a joy to see adults and children visit the museum over the years to see what it's all about. He hopes this will continue when someone else takes it over.

"Put them on display and do what I did. Like I said, you can't even find a caboose anymore," said Gosciminski.

Depot is ex-Philadelphia & Reading; as per Dan West's utterly epic database of depots past and present in Pennsylvania: "The existing station was the old one-story freight house. When the that station was deemed too small and plagued by flooding, the P&R decided to make additions and improvements to the original and added the second story. This happened in 1901.There was a fire on Dec 29, 2000 that heavily damaged the 2nd floor of the station. The owner has rebuilt the damaged sections."

Steam loco: https://www.steamlocomotive.info/vlocom ... splay=1898 Davenport 0-6-0, not tank, ex-Quebec.........

Cabooses: At one point there were as many as fifteen on the property, virtually all originally from Art Brummer's big stash in Renovo, Pa, of LV, Reading, Erie, NH, NYC, and PRR heritage as well as one Conrail one from 1978.

The usual "I don't have any financial interest in this...." blather, but really, does anyone here care if I do or not?
