Just going through some of my back issues (trying to thin out) of Railfan, Trains, etc. I am very intrigued by the amt. of reocrdings out there aside from the usual Mobile Fidelity, Semaphore, Albar, and Arkay records.

Would anyone have any of the copies of 614 on 17 mile grade, "Emergency Stop" or "Night Train to Effner" put out by Adventures in Sound or one of the 614 recordings put out by "All Aboard Railroad"?

I have tried to pick up ones that are coming out now a days, like from Daylight productions and other independent / individual recorders.

I don't have any of the recording you are looking for, however....

My dad and I are audiophiles and have some CDs available at www.traincds.com. (hope this shameless plug is ok) Most of the recordings are from around the Omaha area including UP 844 & 3985, Frisco 1522, Milw 261 and some of my recordings from Mount Rainier Scenic RR in Washington. Some very interesting stuff not available elsewhere.

I actually met your dad some time ago and already have all the CD's which are EXCELLENT! I especially like the section on the Mount Rainier CD where the fellow runs over the reflector while pacing the train! Your dad, Sam Botts, and Richard Carter have the largest selection and collection out there.

I lived in Des Moines several years ago, and got to know many of the same people at the Waverly Nebraska steam show, and OZ RR that your dad knows. I was also able to get the big whistle from the Marshalltown, IA shops.

Tell your dad I said Hi and that I am still working on my steam engine. Hope to have it operating this summer.

Somewhere in my junk I have the tape Emergency Stop. It was recorded on a fantrip from Pittsburgh to Altoona pulled by GTW 4070 and Rdg. 2102. The microphone was on the tender of the 2102 which was the lead engine. It is actually a fairly boring tape with long periods of stack talk and occasional whistling from both engines. The real selling point of the tape was the climb upgrade out of Altoona which ended abruptly when 4070 broke the eccentric rod on the engineer's side and her engineer put the train into emergency. After they prepared the crippled 4070 to be pulled back to Pittsburg the 2102 and diesel helper restart the train and the T-1 put on a good show going around the curve and on up the hill. I was at Horseshoe Curve that night and it is interesting to hear the recording from the tender of the 2102 and compare it to mine recorded from the ground.
