Post subject: Old ICC reports about steam locomotive accidents
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, 2003 3:49 am

The Department of Transportation has a site (URL below) which lists railroad accidents from 1911 to 1966. At the bottom of the page under "LOCOMOTIVE INSPECTION" is a list of ICC reports about steam locomotive incidents. The few that I read consisted of boiler explosions (including C&O 1642, 2-6-6-6 H-8 Alleghany) a grade crossing accident and a broken arm of a NYC engineer from a "Precision reverse gear handwheel spinning violently out of control".

Interesting reading if you have the time.

Link doesn't work. It says you need to be a member to get in, and the general public can't join.

There is somthing wrong with the site and it forwards you to another url.
As soon as the first site url comes onto the address box on your broswer click the stop button then delete the suffux and you can get to the main site page with a link to the reports! I had that and other problems with it, at least I know I wasn't the only one!

Sorry about that guys. It had worked for me, but it was probably because I came in though the other link and still had an active cookie.

When I just tried the link today, I also got redirected. Like GE said, use the following link and choose DOT Railroads.

There really is some interesting information on there!

Choose DOT railroads from the menu
