Rutland, Vermont, just south of the former Rutland railyard and shops site, a shopping center since the 1960s. Rutland RR 4-6-2s stopped running here in the early 1950s, but that wheel arrangement returned with the coming of F. Nelson Blount, and was often seen here through 1984. Toward the end, Steamtown worked harder toward authenticity on their engines and CP 1246 reflects that. It's stored today, inoperable but in heavy grease, at Essex, Connecticut.

Oh my goodness, that is a great photo!!! Perfect lighting, rods down, just enough speed blur, just right on. The lil gal looks good in that one, eh? As to re-creating that scene in CT, we're working on it.

In the Don Ball era at Steamtown (1980-84), most if not all the operational coaches of all types (LIRR ping-pongs, CNJ and DLW commuter cars) were painted maroon and lettered "Vermont Valley". The VT Bi-cen train scheme was a bit different.

The coach is an old LIRR P-54 "ping-pong". Quite a few were purchased by tourist roads at the close of their service on Long Island. The original color and lettering scheme of these coaches was very similar to what you see in this photo. Fine picture, by the way.
