This Texas 2-8-2 pulled one of the last steam powered mixed trains (outside of the Reader RR, which began doing it for tourists) in the US, on the Moscow, Camden & San Augustine.

Back when 1533 was the only engine that ran, NH&I ran steam mixed trains every week. Granted NHIR was mostly a tourist operation but these trains were run to move the freight.

Ah yes, I rode behind W. T. Carter Number 14 on one of those mixed trains. Round trip fare from Camdon to Moscow was fifty cents if I recall correctly. It ran on time too; I nearly missed my ride when they left while I was still taking pictures.
