The main job in our shop at present is a complete rebuild of Garratt locomotive G42 at a total cost of about $AU 1.6 million over 20 years. We expect it to undergo trials in march before entering service in April. See link below (or Linc when he gets home) for further details :>))

Linc is in the opposite corner of our country so I will have to plan a trip to Australia once she gets into revenue service. Good on yer.

During the too short 3 weeks I was privileged to be down under I was made welcome everywhere I went. It included spending the night in a cold unheated haunted stationmasters residence in Victoria, a Murray River steamboat trip from Echuca, tramcars, hardware stores we haven't seen the like of in the USA since Ike was in office, a privately owned steam powered sawmill, a crossing and junction interlocking tower on a very busy Melbourne city line that still had all its manual hardware - and this was just in Victoria!

Save up your vacation and sick time and go for at least a month - you won't regret it.

Howabout we all take the Jerry O'Brien down to Australia on her triple expansions? No shortage of engine room personnel. Massive steam tour of Oz after arrival. Maybe about 25 or 30 of us...now if we can only convince the government it is part of rebuilding Iraq we can get it entirely funded.

These 3 locos are on the 42in gauge Bellarine Peninsula Railway. Leading loco is UK built Hudswell clark No6 of 1903 followed by Australian built Perry "Klondyke" of 1926 and finally Vulcan No 4 from the USA.
