What is the condition of this engine's boiler ?
Could she run again ?

A beauty of a small engine that would be nice to run around the CRRM's loop.

#51 was donated to the city of Rinelander because she had a cracked cylinder and was generally in poor (worn out ) condition. It would be nice if she could steam again but!!!

Well, the boiler is an 1879/1880 vintage wrought iron job, and when in service on the logging railroad, #3 driver hub liners went to pot, and there are deep grooves cut into the wrapper sheet just above the mud ring. Even if you fix the excessive lateral in the running gear, how do you repair the boiler. As historic as the boiler is, I don't think replacing the wrapper sheet would be acceptable. Overall, she was in pretty rough shape, Thunder Lake really used her up. Oil up the running gear, light some oily waste in the smoke box, and push it with the four wheel bobber and the Plymouth. Btw, the stampings on the backhead said she had a steam pressure of 120 pounds when new, wonder what a Form 4 would come up with now?
