The Financial Accounting Standards Board, which is the standard setting body for accounting in the U.S. has now put its statements online.

Relevant statements for non-profit organizations are FASB 116, 117 & 124. Not a quick easy read by any means, but very informative.

Non beancounters can benefit-understanding what your accountant(s) will be doing to keep the books.
