I need a source for locomotive batteries. Due to go back into service this year is our little GE 25 tonner, our Baldwin VO, and two MRS-3s. Off course thay all need batteries. Any ideas are welcomed.

This of course leads to the second part of the question, what do you do with the old ones?

We used to get our 44 tonner batteries from Sam's club....They have plenty of power and will last a good while so long as the charging system is happy. If they go a couple of cycles without a full recharge they'll die in a heartbeat.

Hey Mark,
Some of your search will depend on exactly what kind of battery you need. However, last summer I bought two sets of batteries for GE 44-tonners. I have been able to get them through a place called Allied Battery Supply in Wichita, KS. Phone is (800)529-3348 or (316)524-3348, ask for 'Rusty'. He will want to know the voltage, terminal locations and type (lugs, clamps, posts, or whatever), and the overall dimensions of the battery (Length, heighth, width).
As for getting rid of the old batteries, Allied accepts the old ones for rebuilding on an exchange basis. Until a few years ago, the batteries were rebuilt by Exide in Hays, KS but the most recent set were marked as being rebuilt in Reyanosa, Mexico.

I recommend Interstate. They have a locomotive battery that will stand the test of time,
