Hello All.

Making a trip with some friends to Chicagoland and I'm planning a stop at IRM hopefully Saturday May 1st. I'm very interested in seeing two "local" (to PA/NJ at least) pieces. They would be the lackawanna Boxcab and the LNE 0-6-0.

Just wondering if these items are on display or accessable.

Anyway, the 207 is in Barn 8 which will be open to the public by May. The 3001 is way at the other end of the property in Barn 2, the Diesel shop, which is normally closed to the public. But there are always Diesel guys working there and I'm sure they'll be glad to let you look at it. And stop in at the car shop to say hello.

Of course, they may have moved by then. There's always lots of recreational switching.

I should have said Barn 9. (It was Barn 8 until a mere 15 years ago or so.)

There is at least one other NJ/PA related car you may want to see at IRM. A PRR Cascade series sleeper (Cascade Brim???) currently sits behind Barn 3. This is one of five or six passenger cars at IRM that have yet to make it onto the on-line roster. It recently received new windows and the exterior was needle-chipped. ItÂ’s been given a coat of deep red primer that could be mistaken for Tuscan, albeit flat rather than shiny. Unless some as yet unknown sugar daddy (hint,hint) appears, it is likely to remain in primer and to be relegated to track space in the back 40.

Ted Anderson is the Curator of our Pullman Libray operations and he normally spends two days per week, Wednesday and Saturday, toiling over the drawings and in general making them more organized, protected, and filling research requests. He has been very unselfish in these efforts, which are not at all glamorous, and he is committed to trying to further improve access.

Due to the fragile nature of many of the tracings there are no plans to open this collection to the public, but Ted often makes every effort to answer questions or schedule special hours by appointment. Please try to remember this is a volunteer who drives over an hour each way. Contact me via e mail for more info or comments.

I think the current info is that the car has been identified as the Cascade Knoll - or do I have that backwards? And the paint is not primer, but in fact a finished grade of exterior paint selected with a flat finish in anticipation of additional painting. More windows replaced as of two weeks ago.

What about the GG1? All painted and shiny and certainly ran in NJ/PA. Seems there is an Amtrak flatcar (nee PRR), an X 23 boxcar, and a bobber caboose from the PRR; and the Philly Broad Street subway car; and some repatriated midwest traction equipment that came last from SEPTA; and the Electroliner (Libertyliner) and . . . .
