I believe this loco was the last ALCO DL109 operating in the US and did so until the late 60's. Since all the pictures on the net of this engine are 30+ years old, I assume it was scrapped?

When did the last "genuine" 109 operate and meet the torch?

The last "pure" Alco DL-109s were the NH units, some of which operated until the end of the Old Colony commuter service out of Boston in May 1959. In 1957, NH 0716 was converted for use as a power car supplying 600 VDC for stationary testing of third rail equipment on the ill-fated McGinnis-era lightweight trains. PP 716 (painted red, which faded to a salmon color!) laid around Boston's Dover Street enginehouse, and was cut up by Penn Central in the fall of 1970. Yes, there were some preservation attempts, which did not pan out (and I won't go into here).

I haven't been able to find an actual scapping date, but I know she was operational as late as 1965.
In case anyone's interested, she was re-engined in 1953. Below is a photo of the "beast".

Update to my previous post - Below is a photo of her still operating in 1967, and I've now found more info that indicates she may have still been operating as late as 1969.

Final update - She was taken off the roster some time in 1968, and scrapped in 1969.

The info in the link does bring up an interesting question though, was she a DL-107 or 109 originally?

If anyone cares, "Christine" was reportedly named after Christine Jorgensen, the recipient of the world's first successful sex change operation which took place about the same time.

At least one part of Christine is still around. Her builder's plate is in the company of a Southern DL-109 and three different versions of New Haven DL-109 builder's plates, and a small version GM&O DL-109. I sure do wish that these plates could talk. At least these plates saw service where the modern plates would disappear after a run or two.

Wash your mouth out with soap! "Christine" was NOT a beast but a genuine lady! It is really a great shame that she was not preserved.

Eleventh from the left is a spectacular picture of the enginehouse fire that badly damaged 4-6-0 No. 26, after which the remains were scrapped.

Fire was in 1950, only a few weeks before the V&T quit.
