Glad to hear this famous locomotive will stay in Britain but why was an American portrayed as the boogeyman (or perhaps the "bogie" man) who might take it out of the country? Was there some particular American interested in buying it?
It sure worked as a scare tactic to keep it at home.

There wasn't any mention of boogeymen (American or otherwise) on the BBC last night as far as I recall.
Obviously the story you get depends on which media you read/watch.

Go to our website and look at the pics of our latest acquisition. You can click on the link below, then use the navigation menu to select "Tour the Railroad" and then after the page reloads, then select "Photo Albums". The pics are in the newest album.

So would that be considered a BO-BO,
or an 0-2-2-0?

Nice machine; not much information, though. Was this a donation? Is it a new machine? Sure looks like it.

And, could you supply some info about the "portable signs" that are shown on the image page? Are these for display labels for TVRM exhibits? If so, what sort of material/technique will be used for the labels?

Us Yankees are full of questions....

According to reliable rumor, the forklift which the new Komatsu replaced is older than 2-8-0 #610! And older than GP-7's 1824 and 1829!!

I will be more than glad to answer these questions. The forklift is a BRAND NEW 5,000 pound Komatsu. It is LP gas powered, triple mast (188" reach!), side shifting forks and has what they call solid pneumatic tires.

The machine was purchased by TVRM with a nice discount added in by the dealer. Funds for the purchase have been raised over the last 3 years by TVRM's Back Shop Gang. Efforts to raise the funds included one large donation from a member, proceeds from the rebuild of the Summerville Turntable center bearing, and parking donations received from this year's Day Out with Thomas event. The last item was the idea of one of our parking attendants. Since we are not allowed to charge for parking but yet many people are willing to pay, we had a sign made (and with the blessing of HIT and BLG) that essentially said parking is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. In the 5 days the sign was in place, we collected over $7,000 in donations. And some of that was from folks tipping us as they departed. It was a super idea and we are very thankful to both HIT entertainment and the Baker Leisure Group for allowing us to collect the donations.

The signs that you saw the pictures of are the beginning of a "Visitor Experience Enhancement Plan" that were are undertaking at TVRM. The first step is the placement of 30 interpretive signs at both ends of the railroad. This will be followed by additional activities to provide our visitors with a more educational experience beyond the train ride. More on that as we complete various parts of the plan.
