Hello,

I am looking for a small steam locomotive in any condition at a reasonable price. Any leads would be appreciated. Also buying steam whistles of any size, type, or condition, especially locomotive whistles.

steamwhistle@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Well, Alva, there are a couple 0-6-0s not far from you that are probably available. Check with the folks a BGRM.

IRM still has two GTW 0-8-0's at Sterling, Illinois, in somewhat rough shape, that we have been trying to find homes for for years. The price is $15,000, as is (complete with asbestos), where is. They must be trucked, not rolled. If you are interested, send me an e-mail with your phone #.

Yes the Bluegrass Railroad Museum has an 0-6-0 that they were advertising for around 25k or so. It needed alot of work, but there is no prohibition on running it again if that is a long range goal.

Is it just me or are the IRM 0-8-0s going up in price? 15K plus asbestos! What a deal!!! I remember a 6K price at one time.

Not just you. I remember considering one about 15 year ago for 6K. Never could arrange transport so let the idea die.

Perhaps the difference is between "commercial" price offered to shopping malls looking for a display and real price between real museums - I know IRM doesn't want to gouge fellow legitimate preservation organizations.
