Sandy, are you saying that 90 is running with the extended smokebox today?

If you are, mate, you need to head north a bit more often. The attached photo was taken in 1994. The extension disappeared between '91 and '94.

Since I wasnÂ’t barred from the contest, here are the nits I feel free to pick.
1. As mentioned, the headlight is different, and IÂ’m not sure she ever had a flat top Pyle.
2. As mentioned, no spokes on the lead truck any more.
3. No cover over the turret.
4. The rear sand dome is in the proper location on the model, itÂ’s just an afterthought from some other engine, however it has been sitting behind the backshop for about 15 years. To this day, no one ever notices that itÂ’s gone.
5. Wrong check valves. She has Nathan reversables, and I believe she always has.
6. No diamond plate on the running boards, they are smooth.
7. I assume its model builders licence, but the driving wheel base is way too long, maybe the whole engine is stretched. #90's brake hangers ride outside of the drivers, not in between them, thereÂ’s not enough room. Only 3/4" separates the flanges of the #1 and #2, as well as the #4 and #5 drivers.
8. I wonÂ’t even start on the tender, which is so rebuilt as to be difficult to recognize.

The extension on the smokebox was removed during the winter of 1994. The model doesn’t represent her “as built” appearance either. She was built with two 9-1/2" air compressors mounted way forward, right behind the smokebox.

Never the less, it is a nice model, I never knew one was made.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned on the board yet. Last Wed, Mar 24, the steam booster trailing truck of Boston & Maine 4-6-2 no. 3713 was removed for cleaning and restoration. To do this, the rest of this Lima was moved to the sandblast booth at the steamtown shop. This puts the bulk of this engine off-display for now. If you wanted to see the steam booster, or front end throttle or other parts without a locomotive attached, here is your chance. I plan to report when this piece returns to the main shop floor.
