The Knox & Kane lists 75 miles in my 2003 Official Guide, but I'm not sure how accurate that is, they did abandon some miles on the west end some years back. Obviously (sadly) the east end is now about a half mile shorter, too. Strictly speaking, it doesn't meet the definition due to a handful of freight moves each month, but tourists do pay the bills. The Marienville-Kinzue Bridge trip was 96 miles round trip, longer than the Silverton. Was that the longest regular steam run in the US?

Like my fatherand and my family, I grew up next to the Santa Cruz branch line. For myself This line had a major influence in my life. It was my inspiration for my chosen career in the tourist railroad industry as a steam locomotive engineer and a steam locomotive mechanic. Unfortunatly Tom is right. The good folks of Santa Cruz County do not understand what potental they have with this line nor do they want to understand this potental. The most opposed to it would rather see the line get riped up. Those who have the authority to do the right thing are clueless as to how to make the line work. Hwy 1 and Hwy 17 i.e. automobile is what is understood and is all that matters.

So much for the branch line and its long and rich history in Santa Cruz County.

Demolition Begins on Cleveland's Huletts
01/31:
A court ruling last week cleared the way for the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority to begin the removal of four Hulett Ore Unloaders on Whiskey Island. On Sunday morning crews began dismantling the Huletts and had cut the bucket off of the eastern most unit.
Two of the Huletts will be dismantled and stored for future use at a proposed park along the Cuyahoga River. The site on Whiskey Island will then be used to handle bulk cargoes in the port.

This question came up on another list awhile back.......Surprisingly hard to make a definitive answer. Cretainly the White Pass is among the oldest surviving, and they've been hauling tourists (although not exclusively) almost since the beginning.
But for the oldest continously operated tourist hauler, my vote goes to an unlikely and virtually unknown line in Northern Michigan; the Toonerville Trolley. Speaking off the cuff here, as I don't have references at hand, but IRRC it's been in operation since 1925 under same-family ownership. I've a picture of a train on the line in the 1930's, pulled by a little Fordson or Brookeville critter, two open-air cars so overloaded that folks are riding on the roof and hanging off the lokie. Today it's considered the oldest and longest 2-ft ga. RR in the U.S.

Hello all,
I am researching a 60 cm line in Argentina that used Garratt locomotives. I seem to recall an article in L&RP, but I can't seem to locate a master index for that publication. Was there indeed a railway in Pantagonia such as this or am I off base? Perhaps I am confusing this with the Alfred County?
