When you are talking about your favorite steam locomotive, please use its railroad name as well as its number.

We all know who the 4449 or the 3985 is but there are a lot of other engines out there. Let's just say Pennsylvania XXX or Southern Pacific XXX!

Good point Tom. I've seen locomotives mentioned here that I didn't have a clue about. Don't forget, this list also gets international visitors who may have never heard of 4449, 611, or 844, not to mention the more obscure locomotives.

Would it be too bold to add that not all readers may know what is meant by the WRT & CK or whatever the initials of the road under discussion are. Maybe a list of common abbreviations could be put in a FAQ section?
