What is the narrow gauge locomotive in the Strasburg shop?

She is the ex-D&RG 2-8-0 #346, now belonging to the Colorado Railroad Museum. She is in for boiler and running gear work, and will be returned to Colorado for final assembly, and operation at the Museum.

Work is proceeding on additional track for the 15" gage Cagney train, including a turntable at one end, and a wye at the other. Every locomotive is serviceable, and ready for the season. The Hello Dolly car is undergoing a major rebuild, and will be out by Memorial Day.

In other news, the Strasburg Rail Road launched our new Mechanical Department Web Site today. Among other things, it should be helpful in that it includes drawings of the staybolt caps and sleeves we offer, and should help people make a more informed decision about their needs.

Very nice. But it reminds me of a question I keep forgetting to ask:

the siding work on the Henry K. Long (and the Brenner and the Marian) - was there a particular reason that regular v-groove siding wasn't used?

For the same reason it was sometimes done in the old days, that is what the customer wanted.

Very nice Mechanical Dep't website...just goes to show that Strasburg really has their act together and that they are most competent steam shop in the country. Kudos to a real group of professional. They pull no punches and tell it like it is!
