I'm really interested in finding all the RR's where the A-1 travelled and tested.
(This is for personal curiousity, not a book project or anything where I'll profit from ...financially anyway.)
...and if you can read between the lines, you'll figure out...
I really want to know how close (or if) the A-1 made it to The Reading, since RDG was a devoted Baldwin customer, at least in "latter steam years"

Some confusion may exist due to the "Timken" demo loco Four Aces or 1111 which became NP #2626, the only one of class A-1, 4-8-4. This was indeed a "favorite" engine on NP, and worked mostly at the west end- Seattle-Tacoma-Portland-Spokane, etc. Was told when they started using her that engineers would overshoot passenger stops because she rolled so freely.

I have a dim recollection of hearing that something may have happened to 1111 while demoing on NP which is why they ended up with it. True or not?

1111 looked like an east coast loco, but traditional NP family characteristics made her right for the west.

It doesn't do any good to wish she'd been saved, does it?
