The "NC" Lives! (Grandpa's road)

The latest from TVRM: NC&StL GP7 #710 has been restored to its as-delivered appearance. This locomotive was acquired recently in relatively good condition, although TVRM personnel have done electrical and mechanical work on the unit. Number 710 will be the featured power for upcoming "Hiwassee River Rail Adventure" trips on the former L&N "Old Line" (Hook & Eye). Yes, we realize the air induction system modifications are not 'original', but there was no spare time to retrofit this before its scheduled movement to Etowah, Tennessee (TVRM's shop crew was pushed to the limit with last minute equipment issues, not to mention masking and painting a locomotive!)

That is a simply 'stunning' paint job! Was there any original paint left underneath to go by? (nice photo too)

No original paint was spotted. Because crews were trying to meet a deadline, time did not allow "peeling back the years". A basic sand-down took place (several top layers of Amtrak MOW pumpkin orange), yellow painted first, and then tuscan on top.

Historical photos and books about the NC were used as a guide. TVRM shop guys "eyeballed" the stripes and taped off the yellow areas.
