Roundhouse railroad museum

The Roundhouse Railroad Museum(Savannah, GA) has shut down it's restoration shop and ceased all rail operations for the next 2 years or so for reasons so unfounded that they would be unproffesional for me to post.
Anyone need a good steam mechanic?

My sympathy to your plight. Can anyone NOT worried about their professional or unprofessional appearance PLEASE tell us what the h*** happened in Savannah?

Did not they just take delivery of a CofG combine recently? Or was that someone else? I think we saw the car go rolling by the TVRM Day Out With Thomas event.

I'm only reading into Jason's comments that restoration work is being put on hold for give or take 2 years. I haven't yet seen any indication that the museum's closing.

This may be an indication that there's be a strategic decision to focus on other areas of the museum than equipment restoration (ie facilities preservation) and I'm withholding further judgement pending further information.

The combine that was delivered to the Roundhouse Railroad Museum (already designated and soon to become officially the Georgia State Railroad Museum)just this past Tuesday is former Georgia Northern Railway combine No. 38. While I have yet to discuss the situation with the Executive Director or Coastal Heritage Society regarding their decision to close the backshop, it is my understanding that restoration work on the combine will proceed. Hope to find out something late next week.

Where's Dave Lathrop in all of this? Wasn't he involved with this project? I noticed lately he hasn't been posting on this message board.

Dave was involved for years until around May of 2002. He has been occupied with some personal issues.

Why are they closing? Didn't they just get several millions of dollars from the government? It had been rumored for some time that senior management of that organization was poor at best. This move just goes to prove it. What a stupid move.
