Railroad Shop Photo

My friend Charles Barnett ( Gnug-Gnuf's helper ) sent me this photo. I was so impressed I thought I should share it with you all. I now have it framed and on the counter in my lobby.

Forgive me, but adding an american flag (and a dirty one at that) to a pile of work clothes and welding helmets doesn't say railroad preservation to me.
Now if the flag was clean...

When Charles showed me the photo & told me his feeling about it. "The quiet statement of patriotism in that soiled flag hanging near the door of the Antonito shop, seemed to say much more than I ever could about devotion to this great country of ours."

The photo was taken in a shop that does railroad preservation. We disagree but that is OK. It sure is nice to live in a country where it is OK to disagree.

Its amazing how different people can look at the same thing and get such different feelings about what they saw. I don't believe there is a right or a wrong its just being an individual. Barbara and I many times have looked at the clouds and one of us will see a resemblance to something and to the other just a cloud. When I saw Charles's photo I thought this is real America. A hard working crew working in a very dirty place because of the coal, showing no matter what they love America.

Thank you for sharing an image that means so much to you.

I appreciate any symbol of love for our country and the freedoms we have whether that symbol is torn, dirty, or bright and new.

The first image that came to mine mind was my daughter and her joy at having one of these small flags.

Perhaps, it was just such a small child who my have left this flag behind only to be picked up by a worker.

Imagine. Imagine someone with hands soiled with grease and grime as only a railroad shop can produce. Rough, grimey fingers gently placing this small flag in a place of prominence.

Patriotisim and expressions of love for our country and the wonderful freedoms we enjoy is not confined to some glittering dome in Washington or can only be expressed by some aspriring politician.

Thank you so much.
