I decided it was time to take a break and go out on the porch and swing in the swing. I looked across the way & there was 484 and 487 both under steam with the evening sun shinning on them. The rest is history 6 photos & 1 short video later I am back to work

Thanks a bunch. Great pics and the video with sound even worked on my old computer. It's a nice sunny evening here too.

Are 484 & 487 the only locos that will be used this season? Can someone give an engine by engine update on the rest of the roster?

Thanks!

I think 488 should be finished sometime in July. I don't think a decision has been made yet on the next one to be overhauled Wooly

Is 463 still there? Is she owned by CATS or privately?

The C&TS owns:

K-27 2-8-2 463 (out of service pending Part 230 compliance work)

K36 2-8-2 483 (out of service since 1976 or so)
K36 2-8-2 484 (returned to service May 2004)
K36 2-8-2 487 (returned to service May 2004)
K36 2-8-2 488 (currently under overhaul, July goal)
K36 2-8-2 489 (to be overhauled after 488 is completed)

K36 2-8-2 492 (never used on the C&TS)
K36 2-8-2 494 (never used on the C&TS)
K36 2-8-2 495 (never used on the C&TS)
K36 2-8-2 497 (out of service pending Part 230 compliance work)

463 is still on the C&TS. She was donated to the City of Antonito by Gene Autry.

As I undestand it, for the States of CO & NM to pay to restore her, she was transfered to the C&TS with the proviso that she would revert back to the city of Antonito when the C&TS did not want her any more.

According to the C&TS RR Commision, one long term plan is to have 8 locomotives available so when one or two or three might be down for repairs and there are still 5 or 6 available for operations.

I'd expect that 483 and 492 would be added to the 463, 484, 487, 488, 489, and 497. 494 and 495 are already scavanged for parts and I would expect them to be scavanged a bit more. I think it was said (maybe I'm dreaming also) that the C&TS has enough hardware and appliances to almost complete one more loco but not a second one.

Also according to a report, Los Alamos National Laboritories is donating surplus machine equipment to the C&TS to help beef up the C&TS shops.

Sounds promising.

Now the only thing that would make the C&TS better would be to have a sample of my favorite engine on display. I know it would be out of place but I just love GG-1's :D

Understatement of the year?!? :-o

You, sir, are a bad influence. :)

Against my better judgement (ten years in Purgatory for offending the gods of steam, not to mention my reputation sullied), your wish is my command.

Did you hear they're electrifying west of Antonito even as we speak?

PS -

I neglected to mention that the original image was blatantly stolen from Chris Coleman's fine GG1 tribute.

Apologies and thanks, as appropriate, to Chris.
