I tested the new interchange with my old laptop by dialup using Netscape 7 and it works fine. If I can do it anybody can. Haven't tried any of the various features like imaging and graphical obfuscation, but the basics are simple enough.

BTW Hume, my Chevy truck is not a '55 its a '75. I wish I HAD a '55.

Suggestion: why not add a list for "classified advertisements" which can be also accessed from the index page? I have heard about a water glass and a GE diesel for sale recently from another on the list, and a forum to offer these sorts of things may be in order.

Since you seem to have an easy way to set up several different forums, pehaps you should consider seperate forums for the discussion of Conservation & Restoration, Business & Operations, and Steamtown :) Doing this would ultimately make it easier to search for old posts on either restoration or operations topics, since fewer records would need to be searched.

Well, way back when we did an informal poll and asked if people would prefer to have a single forum or multiples. The consensus was single at that time. If people would like multiple forums we do have the software for it now. But, I think we should do this one small step at a time.

Also, regardless of the number of forums it's all in still the same SQL database. Which I actually find appealing because you can search everything from a single spot.

But, I am intrigued with the idea of using a second forum for classifieds only. But the days when I can just do something on a lark are over, since we got our 510(c)(3).

Have to discuss that idea with my fellow board members and see if it's a suitable thing for RyPN to do. Has to do with legal mumble jumble. But, I think it may be workable.

Uh, has anyone noticed how an individual thread can seem to evolve here on RyPN (topic shifting, etc.)?

Already mentioned is that one of the "drawbacks" to the new forum format is the fact that you must open a thread to view who is responding, response content, etc.

The last complication I need in my life is searching through multiple forums, opening each thread to get my daily "hit" of RyPN.

No offense intended, but let's keep it simple.

Doc, the easiest way to browse a phpBB forum is using a feature called "new posts since last visit." What it does is shows you ONLY the threads that have new posts in them, and lists them in order from most recently replied to on down.

On the phpBB forums I read I have my bookmark set to take me straight to that list, so I always know exactly whats new by scrolling through quickly to decide what I'd like to read.

I too like the current forum better than the new software, but I'm sure I'll get used to the new one. I come here because this is one of the best, if not the best, forums of it's kind. In the final analysis, the future of the Interchange forum will be the quality of the messages, not the format in which they are stored.

You can borrow my '50 Chevy Dave. BTW, I got mine for a steal; they can be found for something less than a body part, especially in the South.

That pickup reinforces that not everything today is better than yesterday. I can do just about everything on that thing, including tear the engine down and put it back together. First thing I say now when I see under my wife's hood: "What the heck? The ENGINE IS SIDEWAYS!"

1.) Air-conditioning meant a vent above the hood and a triangle window pointed inwards

2.) Fixing your transmission meant opening the hood, having someone push on your clutch, and yanking REALLY hard on linkage on the steering column/ shaft, not $100 bucks for just putting on computer to TELL ME that my transmission isn't working.....

If I didn't live in da Great White North, I would drive it every day, FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

Now, Just need to find me a couple of REA signs, and I'll be good to go.

But I digress.....
