There's been some shots of engines stored inside at IRM lately on railpictures, including 265.

Maybe sometime in the future, 261 and 265 can meet again.

I looked at the site and noted that it is captioned that the 265 is stored "in operational" condition. Unfortunately that is not true, and a lot of work and money would be needed. As to the 261 and 265 meeting someday, go watch the 261 on one of its trips this year. Some parts from 265 have been borrowed and are on the 261; so in a way they have met.

Um, Actually a single part was borrowed, but was never mounted on the engine. Other measures were taken, and the plan at this time is to return it unused.

As I understand it, one part recently removed from the 265 for the 261, and a year or two previously another item which has not found its way back to the 265. Contact me off list if you want to discuss this, thanks. We need to clear up any communication and avoid any hard feelings.

No hard feelings from this end anyway. There are no secrets on this, so I can reply right on line so others can know what's going on.
Yes, there was an earlier borrow in about 1999. I did not include this in the single borrowed piece. Likely I should have, but I didn't think of it at the time.
In about 1999 we did borrow the turret cover remains from 265. I'm told that it is to be returned to the 265 at some future point.
The cover was in such bad shape that we basically used the remains to build an entirely new cover which is on the 261. I did all the work on this project, so I know very well how much of the old cover is there. The bullnose front of it, but not down to the mounting flange, which was made new. The restis all new fabrication.
So, when the 261 goes back to Green Bay one of these days, the 265 gets a very good turret cover to replace the original rusted out bent and dented one. This is how I understand the way it works, anyway. You can email me, too, if you like.
